Learn Strobing Makeup Technique In Just 5 Simple Steps

Learn Strobing Makeup Technique In Just 5 Simple Steps
Say hello to a fresh, dewy you this year, with the strobing makeup technique. Here’s all you wanted to know.
Ladies, let’s start off by getting one misconception out of the way. Strobing makeup is not a new technique. Women have been practicing it for years but no one really had a name for it. Suddenly more and more celebrities are seen sporting the look and it’s got everybody’s attention.
So, what’s strobing makeup? Unlike highlighting and contouring (which go hand in hand), strobing gives a more fresh and dewy look. It is your skin telling the world what a healthy lifestyle you lead, which includes working out and fresh juices. Now this might not be the truth, but it doesn’t hurt to look like that, does it?
In the highlighting and contouring technique, dark shades are used to sculpt your face and to pop your best feature. The look is gorgeous but more defined and sharp.
Face strobing, on the other hand, makes you look glowy and luminous in a softer, more natural way. The strobing makeup technique involves highlighting the areas of your face that bounce off light. Your cheekbones, the forehead, the bridge of your nose and the center of your lip’s cupid bow are the areas that you need to focus on.
Another reason to prefer strobing to highlighting is that strobing looks beautiful in real life. Highlighting and contouring are only meant for those facing the camera regularly. The technique looks heavy and unnatural in real life. And let’s face it, we are as real as we get, right?
5 Step Guide To Perfect Strobing Makeup Technique

1) Prep your skin
  1. Use a nice hydrating moisturizer. You need to get a glow, so you need to pamper and replenish dry skin.
  1. Use a water-based moisturizer for oily skin.
2) Get your regular makeup done and dusted
Strobing is the last part of your makeup routine. Apply your foundation, concealer, and eye colors before you get to the next step.
3) Highlight
  1. Pick a highlighter that is as close to your natural skin tone.
  1. If you have fair skin, you should choose white to pinky-beige highlights.
  1. Medium toned skins look gorgeous in bronze-beige or golden hues.
  1. Gold, peachy and orange shades are ideal for darker skin tones.
How To Apply Highlighter
Like I said above, strobing is only to make your natural light-attracting spots shine.
  1. Apply the highlighter on cheekbones, your temples, the bridge of your nose, just under the brow bone, to the corners of your eyes, and a little dab above your cupid's bow. This will highlight your natural features.
  1. Leave the rest of your face untouched or you’ll look like a shiny, oily mess.
4) Blend
  1. Use your ring finger to blend it in thoroughly. Don’t leave any harsh edges.
  1. Finish the look with a slight pink-peach blush to the apples of your cheeks.
5) Oily or acne affected skin?
If your skin is oily, all your facial products should have a matte finish, and only the highlighter should be shimmery. This keeps the look subtle and not jazzy. I like using Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream to not just cover up any blemishes but because it also improves my skin texture.
